the old corner cupboard
with its neat classical rows
of musty moth-eaten clothes
hanging there forever

it is easy to shut the door
and to pick from the transient
flamboyant bright new fashions
so cleverly arranged and displayed
everywhere you look and listen

but – still – there are those
that push through the old coats
to find the hidden lever that opens
upon an enchanted land of meaning
and ever-lasting deep pleasures

discovering, like so many before them,
the true worth of those old cuts

in today’s world of seven billion
there should be more tailors
like the tailors of old
